Advancing with Time: A review of the development of sociological surveys in the past three decades in China

本文对中国社会学恢复重建以来三十余年的社会调查研究进行了阶段性回顾。在社会调查的复兴阶段（1979-1989年），统计调查得到了广泛普及，有明显的经世致用取向，切近改革开放的现实问题，但也存在缺乏规范性、科学性、学科建设不足的情况。在成长阶段（1990-1999年），社会调查学科建设走向规范化，学术化、专业化的程度有了明显的提升。在繁荣阶段（2000年-），一系列全国范围的纵贯学术调查相继问世，使得社会变迁、社会发展的科学化研究成为可能，为社会研究提供了前所未有的、高品质的公共学术资源，有效地推进了社会调查研究方法的创新。此外，本文还对社会调查方法中测量、抽样、资料收集等方面的研究进行了回顾和评述。

This paper reviews the development of sociological surveys in China since the rebuilt of the discipline of sociology. During the recovery period (1979-1989), statistical surveys begin to be adopted in social research. The practical use of such surveys is emphasized to solve the practical problems emerged in the reform of the Chinese society. Yet the surveys suffer from lack of academic standard or scientific methods. During the later period of fast growth (1990-1999), social surveys make progress in becoming more standardized, academic-oriented and professional. Since 2000, social surveys embrace a golden era of development. A series of national longitudinal survey are carried out, making it possible to better analyze social transformation and social development. These surveys provide unprecedented and high quality public academic resources for social research, and effectively enable renovation in the methods of social survey.
