“ Strong Intervention” and “ Weak Intervention”:Two approaches of sociological intervention method

For many years people have been talking a lot about the “ economic miracles” created after the reform and opening to the outside world.In contrast, little has been talked about the “ institution miracle” which gave rise to the “economic miracle” , that is, the tight combination of power and market.“ Transformation sociology” attempts to face the “institution miracle” and the various problems it brings about .Therefore , other sociological research methods besides' instrumental positivism' must be found in order to deal with the social structure and social arrangement in great transformation.“ Sociological intervention” based on “ Sociology of Action” might be one of the effective methods . However, facing the practical process of Chinese social transformation , the method originated from the French Touraine School must be ameliorated on both principles and techniques.Borrowing the principles of “Liberation Sociology” , two types of sociological intervention approaches may be formed, that is, strong intervention and weak intervention.This paper combines the sociological intervention researches on migrant workers and urban movements, and attempts to explain the different ways and operation features of “strong intervention” and “weak intervention”.
